Hello everyone!

I'm Jon (had the 944 Turbo at the show last year), one of the organizers for the Euro Show (both for 2009 and 2010). We'd absolutely love to have you guys come out to the Euro Show 2010. Besides being a highlight of the 2009 show, you guys were probably some of the most dedicated people there - all smiles despite the awful weather. We also appreciate that some people came from out of the city, which is quite a commitment, and one that we really appreciate!

We're hoping that this year's show will be a lot bigger than last year. It's understandable that a lot of people did not show up due to the weather; however, we've taken that into consideration and that's why we've decided to move the show to July 24th. We're also planning to host a track day the day after the show (on Sunday the 25th) at Three Flags Motorsports Park (it's not a dirt track, don't worry) -- but we'll be releasing more details on that later.

Anyway, we're busy doing a lot of leg work well ahead of time, but I just figured I'd extend an official invitation on behalf of the organizing team. You guys were all great last year, and hopefully you guys would be willing to come out again. Although we can't guarantee it won't rain, at least it probably won't snow!

a track day eh? guess that means I'll have to make sure to leave room for another set of tires.... might have to leave the gf at home this time then. was going to go already, now, I'll just have to pack some extra tools/jack/airpump/randomness.

Also, will helmets be supplied/required, or should I look into tracking one down?

I like your thinking!

Helmets will be required, but we will probably have some there - however, since there might be a lot of people there (and with varying degrees of scalp care) it might be a smart move to try to bring your own. :P

I don't want to speak too much on the track day yet, since, as I say, we're still planning it. Once we're a little closer to getting everything sorted we will get in touch with everyone to give you all the details!

okay, how about flame resistant beanie's, required, or no? if they are, I may suggest buying a box, they're pretty cheap. if they're not required, still good for "questionable hygiene candidates" i dont' personally have one, but would be nice to know if required, is there also a tech safety beforehand? (nothing loose in trunk, battery tiedown, general working order of car?) any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

All very good questions; I'm not actually the one who is setting up the specifics of the track day - I'll be doing more of the promo work, registrations for the Saturday show, and working with the dealerships. However, what I'll do is get down all of your questions, and pass them along to one of the other guys on the organizing team who is handling the track day related stuff; this would be the same person who handles the BMW Club of Sask's relations with Three Flags Motorsports Park (the racetrack in question).

If I may, though, I'll answer a couple of questions to the best of my knowledge. As I say, I'll be getting all of the specifics and we'll be getting that information out to the clubs (i.e. your club) and the other registrants a little nearer to the show; however, from what I know from past track days with the BMW Club:

- you do not need to wear flame retardant clothing (most people wear tee shirts and jeans). Helmets are required, but that is the extent of required safety gear. If you want to wear said clothing you would be welcomed to do so. Beanies would be a good idea if people are sharing helmets, but again, they're not necessary.
- it will be a single car on the track at a time - so more of a hot lap scenario where cars line up in the pit lane, drive the course, drive off the track and then the next car starts his run (no passing, which means that insurance/safety requirements are quite different).
- there has never been a safety inspection during the track days I have gone to; however, it might be assumed that as a car club our members are competent about the mechanical quality of their vehicles - this situation might change if we're hosting a track day for other drivers, but I'd have to ask someone who would know more information about that. Likewise, we (the BMW Club) have a specific arrangement with the track, so our requirements might be different than if we were to host a public event. I'll get those details and get back to you on that one.

As I say I'll get more details about the track day once we've got everything figured out. I only wanted to give people the heads up in case they're coming in from out of town that it might be worthwhile to stay in town the extra day. We're still a ways off from the show yet (there is still snow on the ground, after all!) but once we get everything more concretely settled we will absolutely let everyone know exactly the details!

In the meantime, I hope this picture gives you some idea of what the track is like:

As you can see from the picture the layout of the track allows us to make some variations, and we usually put pylon "chicanes" on the back straightaway to slow the cars down a little - you can put on some pretty good speed on the back straight coming into the hairpin left (see the most left corner in the picture or turn A on the track map). It's definitely a thrilling drive!

Bumpage. Who all is going to this? It's on my annual list, so I'm in hopefully.
Hopefully we have a sizable Saskatoon group again.

And I won't be participating in the track day, or going to 3 flags whatsoever. Their disrespect and general "backstabbing" behavior towards the drift communities that used to use their tracks is unprofessional and nothing short of appalling.
