Railroaded by SGI on my Audi

Postby a.gallant on Fri Mar 05, 2010 3:46 pm

I own a 1991 Audi 90 STD 2.3E 5cyl with 55000km which was recently considered a total loss. SGI has offered me 2,660$ as a settlement which I found outrageous. They compared my car with 2 in ontario with 200000+km. Im just looking on some input from people. What do you think?

Find your own data. Search Kijij, Autotrader, etc and take it back to them with what you find. They did the same thing to me with my MK3 and I got another $2500 from them by taking in ads that showed a higher value.

I fully agree. A car as old as that (assuming it was in good condition) with that low of KMs is worth an extra couple of thousand alone just for the condition of the engine/transmission, etc.
Goals: Get low. Get R32. Get more low.

Yikes that evaluation looks bad. When my GTI got totaled SGI brought in a private appraiser to do it. You have that option if nothing else pans out.

lol, I remember when SGI tried to right off my GTI and give me $3k for it, I took in a stack of receipts to them, they had to call in TWO different adjusters to figure it all out, and in the end they decided to fix the 8k in damages. not really sure how they figured it was 8k, some minor body work on passenger door/rocker, and the rear trailing arm needed to be replaced. But, that's SGI for you, best of luck, fight your ass off for it, try to find any receipts that you have and take them in, any kind of information you can find to help your cause will help in one way or another. Try to bring in some stats for sales on same car from out of country if you can't find anthing to help out the boost of the value of your car, not sure if it will help, but definately can't help you out

When my Bug was hit SGI had a third party appraisal company (from the states) appraise the car and that is what saved it. Also I didn't have to ask for it, SGI took it upon themselves to have it done.
The Bug came out at over $10,500!
Best of luck to you.

same thing happened to my GTI when I had a claim, they wanted to write it off and give me $3k for it, so I brought in a stack of receipts, and they called in someone, took a long time, but they ended up fixing the over $8k in damages, which sounds like alot, especially since the damage wasn't that extensive, dented rocker panel/door/fender, had to replace rear trailing arm, right rear rotor assembly and the front bumper; which could have stayed on the car, broke a small piece underneath that you can't see, and is only there to mount the front lip, which you could still mount.

In any case, best of luck
